Home EV Charger Payback Calculator

Find out how quickly a home charger pays for itself compared with relying on public charging.

Is a home charger worth it?

A home charger lets you charge overnight at your cheaper home tariff instead of paying public prices. The payback is the installation cost divided by the yearly saving. The more you drive, and the bigger the gap between home and public prices, the faster it pays back.

Government grants and installer discounts reduce the cost; subtract them from the charger cost field.

Frequently asked questions

Can I charge from a normal socket instead?
Yes, but a 2.3 kW household socket adds only about 10–15 km of range per hour and is not designed for continuous high loads, so a dedicated wallbox is safer and faster.
