Estimate how long it takes to charge between any two battery levels on a home, AC or DC fast charger.
How charging time is estimated
Charging time is limited by whichever is lower: the charger’s power or the maximum your car can accept. AC charging is roughly constant, so the calculator uses 90% efficiency. DC fast charging follows a curve: fastest at low states of charge and slowing sharply above about 80%, so the calculator uses lower average power for the final stretch.
Real sessions vary with battery temperature, charger load and the car’s own charging curve.
Frequently asked questions
Why does charging slow down after 80%?
To protect the battery the car reduces charging power as the cells fill. That is why fast-charging stops usually end at 80%.
How long does it take to charge an EV at home?
With a 7.4 kW wallbox a 60 kWh battery adds about 36 kWh from 20–80% in roughly five hours.
